Guide to proper installation of Johnson-Fluiten's G-series rotary joint for machine tools
The proper installation of a rotary joint for high-speed applications on machine tools is crucial to support perfect system functionality and ensure optimal performance. The areas of machine tool use present particularly severe conditions, and each step of the installation requires attention to detail.
We will now see a step-by-step description of the steps illustrated in our 3D video, which shows how to properly install the rotary joint for cooling an electrospindle or rotary unit.
Tools required for installation
The first scene of the video presents a visual list of the tools and materials required for assembly. Some of these are included in the kit supplied with the Johnson-Fluiten G-series joint; others must be procured separately:
-
Included in kit:
- G-SERIES ROTARY JOINT (SPECIFICALLY FOR MACHINE TOOLS)
- CAPS
- DRAIN HOSE ADAPTER (CONNECTION DRAIN)
-
To be obtained:
-
- DRAIN HOSE
- DIAL INDICATOR
- ALLEN KEY
- INLET HOSE
- WRENCH
Step-by-step assembly instructions
-
Assembly of caps and drain adaptor
Using an Allen wrench, secure the plugs in the three drainage holes that will not be used. Next, install the drainage pipe adapter in the hole chosen for drainage.
-
Inlet Hose Assembly
Connects the inlet pipe to the rotary joint. Depending on the model, the fluid inlet can be radial or axial. Pay attention to the following characteristics of the pipe:
- - It must be flexible.
- - It must be the correct length (not too short).
- - It must not be in tension or stretch upward.
- - It must not form bends. If necessary, use proper splices instead of bending the pipe.
-
Connection of the Drain Hose
Connect the drainage pipe, making sure it is the correct size. Again, prevent the pipe from being bent or tenting upward. If necessary, use specific adapters to direct the pipe in the correct direction.
-
Mounting the rotary joint on the spindle
Secure the joint to the spindle using a suitable tightening wrench. Follow the directions in the manual to apply the correct clamping load.
During this step, it is critical to:
- - Avoid mechanical constraints that can block the joint.
- - Ensure that the anti-rotation system allows physiological movement of the joint without restricting it. Improper fitting could impair the functionality and reduce the life of the joint.
-
Final test: verification of correct assembly
After mounting the joint on the spindle, perform a check using a dial indicator:
- - Position the dial indicator correctly.
- - Manually rotate the joint and check that the maximum tolerance does not exceed 0.03 mm
Following these instructions ensures proper assembly, which is essential to maximize the performance of the rotary joint and ensure the durability of the system. For further details or questions, please refer to the manual supplied with the rotary joint or contact our technical support team.
